Flash Fiction: Giving It A Go

I follow a great blog by Dan Allatore; fellow author an an all-around inspiring blogger. His writing advice is great. Dan posted a flash fiction challenge based on two randomly-generated things: a character and an emotion. The goal: to write 500 words that convincingly show the random character expressing the emotion generated.

I have never done flash fiction challenges before. Sure, I’ve had ideas pop into my head and then I scratched about 5,000 – 8,000 words of what read like “automatic writing”, or psycic writing in some circles. It was a flow. No organized plot planning. Just rough sketches, really.

Here is what my random character was:

A helpful 62 year-old man, who comes from a wealthy background, lives in a social housing scheme and tends to cry a lot.
